Firefighters Battle Commercial Fire And Save Two Homes

LOS ANGELES-
Despite multiple hazards, firefighters battled and saved two homes adjacent to a blazing commercial structure fire.
 
On March 17, 2016, at 5:57PM, the responded to a reported structure fire in the in South Los ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½.  Firefighters arrived on scene to find a with heavy fire showing.
Several fire ground hazards combined to create a challenge the firefighters met and overcame.  The building’s aluminum construction eliminated the ability to go to the roof to conduct vertical ventilation, downed high-voltage power lines on one side of the building limited access and the contents (furniture business) created a significant fire load; yet despite these conditions, the 55 firefighters operating under Battalion Chief Dale Drummond achieved knockdown in 48 minutes and saved the 2 residences on either side of the structure.
 
Two different fire companies from neighboring Los ÃÛÌÒ´«Ã½ County Fire Department were also on scene, working together with LAFD firefighters.
 
One male LAFD firefighter was transported with a minor leg injury.   Arson is investigating the cause of the fire.
